Describe the life cycle of Trichuris spp.

A

Adults in LI produce eggs
Development to L1 in egg = L1 is infective
L1 ingested, plugs on egg are digested and L1 is released
L1 penetrates mucosal glands of the cecum
Development from L1 - adult occur in these glands
Adults emerge and their anterior ends are embedded in the mucosa
PPP 6-12 weeks, depending on spp.
Pathology - usually asymptomatic, but diptheric enteritis can occur
