Active Transport Flashcards
What is the process of active transport?
-A molecule binds to the carrier protein and uses ATP to change shape.
-As the shape is changed the molecule passes through.
What molecules does active transport require from the membrane?
Carrie proteins.
Where does active transport happen?
The roots of plants to absorb minerals.
Does active transport plateau?
No as the concentration in the cell is always increasing and constantly moving into the cell.
What process are large substances moved by and does it require energy/ATP?
-Bulk transport.
-Active process (require ATP).
What are the two types of bulk transport?
-Exocytosis and endocytosis.
What is exocytosis and endocytosis?
Exocytosis- moving out of the cell.
-Endocytosis- moving into the cell.
What are the two types of endocytosis and what are they used for?
-Phagocytosis for solids.
-Pinocytosis for liquids.
How do vesicles play a role in endo and exocytosis?
-Move by being attached to the cytoskeleton.
-Can fuse with the plasma membrane to take in or expel content.
