  • Formed from harsh lava and ash from volcanic eruptions 450 mil years ago
  • Makes up the highest points such as helvellyn

  • Formed of sedimentary mudstones, sandstones, siltstones and some limestones - 420 million years ag
  • Moved overtime and eroded to their present level
  • Form gentler scenery - Morcombe bay

  • The present landscape is the result of glaciation during the play during the stein period during the last millions of years.
  • However some of the depositional landforms in today as the result of a recent glaciation
  • Loch Lomond stadia - which was a brief episode of glacier re-advance

A
  • drumlin fields —> south of Kendal
  • Orientation of drumlins show the southwards movement of the glacier
  • many tills deposited during glacial retreat
  • Erratics such as those at witherslack are from * Borrowdale volcanic group - moved 30km
