Q

Fibre glass manufacture

A
  • Wax is applied as a mould release
  • Gel coat is applied to provide colour
  • Fibre glass, resin and catalyst is applied in layers and rolled out
  • After curing, the part is removed from the mould excess material is trimmed and it is ready for assembly

Composite material hazards

A
  • Skin irritation due to styrene
  • Peroxide in catalysts causes damage when in contact with eyes
  • Toxic gases are given off
  • Fibres cause skin irritation
  • Dust generated when finishing
