This is achieved by the ciliary muscle contracting and reducing the tension of the suspensory ligament, causing the lens to become more convex, resulting in greater refraction.
  2. When an object is distant, the ciliary muscle relaxes, increasing the tension of the suspensory ligament and flattening the lens, which leads to less refraction.
