What are the different types of drawings?
- Plans or layout drawings.
- Schematic (Block) diagrams.
- Wiring diagrams.
- Circuit diagrams.
- Site diagrams.
What symbols should you use in diagrams.
You should use the British standard symbols, if these are not used you should include a key.
What are plan / layout drawings used for?
These are used to locate equipment within the project and show the scale of the project.
Where are schematic (block) diagrams used?
These are shown where distribution boards in an installation go to.
What is a wiring diagram used for?
These are shown how to wire things in great detail.
What is a circuit diagram used for?
This shows how the circuit will operate and what should be included in the circuit.
What is a site diagram?
Site diagrams are used to see where things are on site, this includes temporary structures.
What are the five levels of drawings?
- Sketch drawings
- Design and tender drawings.
- Contract drawings.
- Working or construction drawings.
- As fitted or installed drawings.
What is a sketch drawing?
This is a basic drawings that is used to design what the customer wants. This will usually change multiple times until the customer is happy.
What is a contractual variation?
If a sketch drawings is done for a specific part of the job by a contractor.
What is a design and tender drawing?
These are produced by a designer to communicate the main design of the works. These will show the entire project so it will be easier to read the design and render drawing rather than other drawings.
What is a contract drawing?
These drawings follow the design and tender drawings, these drawings consider the variations the contractor requires and included the price of the work.
What is a working or construction drawing?
These drawings are produced from the building contractor, these contain loads of details from things like the type of fixing to use to the measurements of items. It should show you exactly how to do the job.
What is an as fitted drawing?
These drawings are what the building contractor ended up doing so if a light switch couldn’t fit somewhere for whatever reason then they should agree to put it somewhere else with the customer and create an “as fitted” drawing.
