Who is Creon?
King of Corinth and the father of Jason’s new bride. He forced Medea and her children out of Corinth because he feared retaliation against his daughter. he granted Medea and her children an extra day which helped Medea with her plan of revenge.
Who is Aegeus?
King of Athens. He gave Medea sanctuary in exchange fo helping him become a father.
Who is Medea in Euripedes?
Grandaughter of Helios, worshipper of Hecate (rumored witch). Jason’s first wife and mother of his children.
Who is Jason in Euripides?
Medea’s husband, abandoned Medea and her children in a foreign place to marry the princess of Corinth. Leader of the Argonauts.
What are some themes?
Medea kills her own children. She displays skill and control with Creon, Aegeus, and Jason. Reveals the situation of all women.
What does this reveal about Gender?
Medea portrays the archetype of the crazed emotional woman. She is representative of all women showing they can be irrational and vengeful. However, Medea was conflicted about killing her children.
