MOA: inhibit the formation of pteroic acid through the inhibition of dihydropetrate synthase (DHPS) by acting as a false substrate/competitive inhibitor. interere with synthesis of folic acid (does not happen in animals).

bacteristatic. broadspectrum.

resistance: production of insenesitive dihydropteroate enzyme or hyperproduction of PABA.

PK: precipitate out and form crystals. acetylation.

toxicity: urinary tract, liver, derm, keratoconjunctivitis. drug fever hypersenesitivity. do not use in doberman pinschers. good in combination with “oprims”
