Canadian System of Soil Classifcation
Groups together siils with similar characteristics
Regosol
Young, underdevopled soil due to
Diagnostic:
Theses soils do not have a B horizaon or (may not have an A horizon)
Brunisol
Soils in which horizon have undergone only slight development from the parent material
Diagnostic:
Bm horizon at least 5 cm thick and otherwise lacks the diagonostic properties of soil or other others
Luvisol
Charactierzed by a textual constrict between the A and B horizon
Diagnostic: horizons at least 5 cm think in which silcate caly is the man accumlation product
Chernozem
Contans alot of OM in the top layers limiting the growth of trees
Diagnstic:
A dark brown surface horizon enriched with OM at least 10 cm thick
Solonetz
Diagnostic:
has a soloentizic B horizon. This horizon has columnar or prismatic structure.
Greysol
Soils deveploed under wet conditions
Diagnostic:
These soils have low chromas or prominet mottling or both
Podzol
Contians pozolic B horizon in which combinations of amorphous Al, Fe, and organic mater have 10 cm think
Vertisol
Found in cool, subarid to subhumind grasslands
Diagnostic: These soils have both slickenside and vertic horizons
Cryosol
They form in regoins that have mean annuel soil tempertue below 0C
Diagnostic: These soils have permafrost within 1m of the surface areass
Organic
Soils that hvae deveopled in organic deposting including soils commony known as peat, bog, or fen soils.
Diagnostics:
They contian more then 17% carbon. and the organic layer must be at least 30 cm thick.
