What are sampled sounds?
Part of a recording that is used in another recording
What is reverb?
An effect which makes the sound echo (last longer)
What is distortion?
An effect which changes the sound to make it have a gritty, fuzzy, and distorted sound.
What is monothematic?
When the film score is only based upon a single melody.
What are click tracks?
A track that produces a clicking sound that film music composers use to help time their music exactly to the action.
What is music spotting?
A session where the film composer meets with the director and decides where music is going to feature in the finished film
What is a cue sheet
A sheet which gives accurate timings (in seconds and fractions of seconds) of all dialogue and descriptions of the action
What is a storyboard
A graphic organiser in the form of illustrations or imitates displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualising a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or video game sequence.
What are cross rhythms
When two or more rhythms interlock or overlap creating musical tension.
What is a sigh motif?
A short rising then falling melody in an arch shape.
What are musical clichés?
Short motifs e.g pedal notes, cluster chords etc. which are used every time a character does a certain action or ends up in a certain situation.
What are pedal notes?
A long, sustained note that is held even when the chords change. It is usually in the bass (low pitched part).
What are cluster chords?
A chord where all the notes are very close together
