Treatment lecture Flashcards
Debriefing
Brief intervention conducted after traumatic event (secondary intervention). Clear risk factor and its a human response to want to help people, which is why its had a lot of attention
The interventions vary in;
- Content
- Form
- Target population
About 2 hrs, first individual than groups.
Phases of debriefing

Thoughts
Feelings
Symptoms
Education
Closure
Aims are: prevention of PTSD, providing support and educating on typical normative/non-normative responsses
Guidelines (NICE)
Advice against debriefing. inconsistent findings and strong focus on emotion. Not only inactive but can even worsen symptoms.
Findings of the study;
Not significant, but from another point of view CISD intervention could hinder recovery (included 0 in CI)
Possible explanation ineffectivity of CISD
Disturbs natural prcessing/oscillation of reexperiencing vs. avoidance (It switches between needs)
Discourages using social support (I’ve had help so I should move on)
Sensitization instead of habituation ( group sessions, so might not be able to habituate)
