Successes in the 1970s

  1. Established 4 new guerrilla training camps in Tanzania since 1963
  2. Asked the USSR for help who agreed.
  3. Gained from the Soweto uprising.
  4. Thousands of students and young people who left SA joined ANC then PAC as the ANC was better organised.
  5. New soldiers energised camps.
  6. By 1980 majority of ANC’s army made up of young people and students
  7. MK began action inside SA again
  8. Between 1977-80, there were about 80 small scale attacks on gov and police buildings

Failures in the 1970s

First 7 are ANC training abroad.

  1. By 1970, camps housed about 2,000 Mk soldiers and conditions were often unpleasant.
  2. A lot of fighting between soldiers, desertions and small mutinies.
  3. Moral was very low with bored and fustrated soliders anxious to go back to SA to fight
  4. Training cunts in Tanzania was shut down at short notice in 1969 minus the Tanzanian government
  5. AMC leaders were cut off from the rest of South Africa in exile
  6. Had in common with the new generation of Black Consciousness activist.
  7. Members who rush to join after Sowetto were often rash and undisciplined, clashing with the MK leadership
  8. Four members who try to re-infiltrate South Africa were quickly intercepted and two were killed.
  9. Damage on government buildings and police buildings was limited, and MK soldiers were often caught or killed

Relations with USSR became close throughout the 1960s. Soviet run MK training camps. large amounts of money were provided from USSR.
