Motion and Forces Flashcards
Acceleration gradient
Acceleration (Gradient) = change
Interpreting velocity/time graphs
slope or gradient of the graph tells us the acceleration of the vehicle
area under the graph tells us the distance travelled
Velocity/time graphs
Velocity/time graphs show how the velocity of a vehicle changes over time
Velocity equation
(final velocity)2 - (initial velocity)2 = acceleration x distance
AVUT
a is the acceleration
v is the final velocity
u is the initial velocity
t is the time taken
acceleration equation
a = (v-u)
t
Velocity
Velocity is the change in distance per second
Acceleration
is a change in velocity per second
Acceleration is a vector quantity
Calculating speed
Speed (m/s) = distance (m) divided by time taken (s)
average speed (2)
distance (m) = average (m/s) = x time (s)
Average Speed
average speed (m/s) = total distance (m) divided by total time taken (s)
speed, distance, time
speed is the distance that a moving object that covers each second
Describe the difference between a Scalar and a vector
Scalar has a size, whereas a vector has a size and a specific direction
Speed and velocity
speed has a size but velocity has a size and direction
Examples of Vector quantities
force of weight
velocity
displacement
acceleration
