Parts of the mandible
Body, angle, ramus, condyle and coronoid process.
Body of the mandible
Found inferior to the lower teeth.
Angle of the mandible
Posterior corner of the mandible.
Ramus
The vertical portion of the mandible at the posterior end.
Condyle of the mandible
Found just anterior to the ear canal and inferior to the zygomatic arch.
Coronoid process
One inch anterior to the condyle of the mandible.
Maxilla
Bone found in the centre of the face. Forms the inferior orbit of the eye and around the nose and upper jaw.
Zygomatic bone
Cheekbone; forms the lateral orbit of the eye.
Nasal bone
Forms the bridge of the nose. Small, located between the frontal and maxillary bones.
Frontal bone
Anterior aspect of the cranium. Forms the forehead and superior aspect of the orbit.
Parietal bones
Bones found posterior to the frontal bone. Form the sagittal suture.
Temporal bones
Found inferior to the parietal bones.
Landmarks of the temporal bones
Mastoid process, superficial zygomatic arch.
Mastoid process
Large, superficial bump directly behind the earlobes.
Superficial zygomatic arch
Bony arch between the bheekbone and temporal bone.
