Q

Yuki’s study of emotions:

A

Yuki found differences in the types of text emoji sent by Japanese and Americans

Japanese emojis have more of an emphasis on the eyes, Americans have more of an emphasis on the mouth

This shows that Japanese people focuses on the eyes to read emotion whilst Americans focus on the mouth

Q

Limitations of Yuki’s study:

A

The study lacks ecological validity (variables) by not using real faces that people are more used to interacting with. Real faces are more complex

The range of emotions was limited. Maybe for other emotions Japanese and Americans look at the same facial features

The participants were aware of the study and may altered their behaviour (Hawthorne effect)
