A
  1. pay attention and listen attentively to the speaker
  2. let the speaker discuss his/her ideas comfortably
  3. withhold judgment and advice
  4. do not interrupt and wait until the speaker finished talking
  5. be attentive, notice (and use) non-verbal cues, and show interest with eye contact
  6. empathize with the speaker
  7. give your feedback and respond appropriately
  8. asking open-ended questions to encourage further responses
  9. paraphrasing and reflecting back what has been said
