Adaptation-Level Principle

A

According to Myers, we gauge our happiness in relation to our prior experiences, which is known as the adaptation-level principle. It is the tendency people have to quickly adapt to new situation, until that situation becomes the norm. Once the new situation is normal, another new experience is needed.

Relative Deprivation Theory

A

The feeling of relative deprivation is activated when we receive less than what we expected to receive, particularly if others in similar circumstances received what we did not, and if we believe that the circumstances are largely beyond our control. On the other hand, if we compare ourselves to people under similar circumstances who didn’t receive the benefits that we have received, this could have a positive impact on our satisfaction and well-being.
