What is the purpose of the LP flare?
Burn off (BOG) released from
the LNG storage tanks and ship vapor recovery systems which cannot be accommodated by
the BOG compressors .
What are the major hazards associated with the LP flare?
- Radiated Heat from the Flare
- Cryogenic Temperatures
- Nitrogen’s inability to support life
How many pilots are located on the LP flare?
3 Pilots
What are the methods of lighting the pilots on the LP flare?
High Energy Ignitor (HEI)-
Flame Front Generator (FFG)-
What is the maximum rated pressure of the LP flare?
50 psig
What is the importance of the sizing of the flare?
handling low pressure bog from the LNG tanks and vapor recovery system
it is not fully sized to accommodate the BOG if compressor if lost

What does the monitoring of the LP flare include?
- Ensuring necessary battery limit isolation valves are open.
- Ensuring the pilots have constant flow of fuel gas.
- Check to ensure the pilot burners are on.
- Check the Local Control Panel (LCP) to ensure lights and indicators are functioning
correctly. - Maintaining general cleanliness of the unit.
