What is the basso continuo?

A

The lower part of the trio sonata, with two players of harpsichord/organ and cello/bass. (Also known as the “Rhythm Section” of the Baroque Orchestra.)

A

Concertos are based on contrast, with differing tempos and moods through its movements.

What are sonatas?

A

They were designed for just a few musicians to play, from 2-6. Trio sonatas emerged, with most commonly two violinists and a basso continuo.

What are dance suites?

A

Contained at least 4 dances with different tempos and rhythms, containing the allemande, the courante, the sarabande, and the gigue. The minuet was added, in 3/4 time.
