-During John Diefenbaker’s term, Canada debated whether to build and own nuclear weapons
- Minister of Defence, George Peakes suggested integrating air defenses with the US for a united front. Negotiations stalled over storage, transport, and authorization.
- In 1961, U.S. President Kennedy aimed to push for nuclear missile incorporation into national defense policy. However, Diefenbaker’s cabinet became divided on the use of nuclear warheads.
- Today, no nuclear warheads are stored in Canada.
