Collision theory Flashcards

1
Q

What are the principles of collision theory?

A
  • in order for partickes to react they must collide
  • when particles react, chemical bonds must be broken which requires energy
  • particles must collide in the correct orientation
  • in order for a reaction to happen particles must collide with enough energy to start breaking the chemical bonds, if particles dont have eough energy, they will just bounce off eachother

Q

Ways to increase rate of reaction in a solution

A
  • increase conc of reactants
At a higher conc we have more reactant particles in the same volume because reactant particles are closer together , there is an increased chance of collisions taking place = increased frequency of collisions

Q

Ways to increase rofr in a gas

A

Increasing the presssure makes the partickes closer together which increases frequency of collisions = increased rate of reaction
