This was passed in 1703, as a result that England had declared Scotland was at war with France. This gave the Scottish parliament the right to declare war and make peace independent from the English parliament if Scotland and England continued to share a monarchy after the death of Queen Anne

A

James Douglas, the 2nd lost his position as Queen Anne’s top governor because of what happened in Scottish parliament in 1703 and for not being able to control it
- the acts passed by Scotland only seemed to prove to the English that Scotland was acting like an unreliable rogue nation

In 1704, the Worcester, the English trading vessel was captured by the Darien company
- Scottish authorities captured the Captain, Thomas Green and seventeen others for an act of piracy and executed them even though the charges were nonsensical

Queen Anne’s response to Worcester affair

A

She was furious and England had won a major victory against France in the battle of Blenheim August 1704
- she passed the alien act in February 1705 which threatened to treat all Scots as foreigners in England
- key Scottish trade with England in cattle, linen, coal and sheep was banned unless negotiations for a full union started by 25 December 1705
