Q

By counting the number of times each unique author appeared, the most active researchers can be displayed

A

By merging the provided authors and articles datasets to combine rows with identical PMIDs, a count of the number of papers each author published could be taken

Q

Inconsistencies in the way author’s names are recorded across different journals has led to authors names appearing more than once in the list of unique names, thus this graph is subject to change

A

Currently we are not confident that this count is 100% accurate due to inconsistencies in the way that the author’s names are recorded across different journals.

Q

Currently this metric, Jürg Utzinger is the most active researcher in this field with a total of 169 articles published

A

The graph currently shows that by this metric, Jürg Utzinger is the most active researcher in this field with a total of 169 publications and the rankings are unlikely to change dramatically after preprocessing the data in a way that combines counts for authors appearing under different variations of their name. We would appreciate it if you could offer some guidance regarding this particular preprocessing.

Q

Alternative metrics to determine the most active authors will be considered, introducing time constraints is a possibility

A

Total number of publications is just one of the potential parameters by which the most active authors can be determined, we would be interested in hearing any preferences you may have for other activity metrics so we can produce additional visualisations accordingly. We have some initial suggestions for you to consider: Firstly, number of papers published over a particular time frame (in the last 5 years for example), secondly, consistency of publishing (for example if a particular author publishes a similar number of articles every year, or whether the bulk of thier publications came in specific years. Alternatively we could explore more qualitative metrics, if this is something you’re interested in.
