Forces & Motion Flashcards
What is the typical walking speed?
1.5 m/s
What is the typical speed of sound?
330 m/s
Equation for speed?
Speed (m/s) = distance (m) / time (s)
Equation for acceleration?
acceleration (m/s2) = Change in Velocity (m/s) / time (s)
What are the three Newton’s Laws?
- If the resultant force on a stationary object is zero, the object will remain stationary. If the resultant force on a moving object is zero, it. will carry on moving at the same velocity.
- Resultant Force (N) = mass (kg) x acceleration (m/s2)
- When two objects interact, the forces they exert on each other are equal and opposite.
Equation for stopping distance?
Stopping Distance = thinking distance + breaking distance
How might an individuals ‘thinking time’ be increased?
Alcohol, tiredness, drugs
How might an individuals ‘breaking time’ be increased?
Wet roads, bald tyres.
How do calculate Acceleration on a velocity-time graph?
Calculate the gradient
(Gradient = change in velocity / time)
What does a diagonal line sloping up mean on a velocity-time graph?
Constant Acceleration
What does a horizontal line mean on a velocity-time graph?
Constant Velocity/Stationary
What does a diagonal line sloping down mean on a velocity-time graph?
Constant Deceleration
