When installing, they should be leak, tested before proceeding with recovery. Because they leak overtime, they should not be left on after completion of the repair. 
What can help free refrigerant that might be trapped under the oil in the compressor crank case?
Heat (with a heat gun) and strike it with a rubber mallet
