(9 cards)
both ends open, wavelength formula
L = n λ/2
f_n=nf_1
both ends fixed, wavelength formula
L = n λ/2
f_n=nf_1
one end free, another fixed formula
L = (2n-1)λ/4
f_n=(2n-1)f_1
Where are antinodes located?
λ/2
Standing wave definition
A standing wave is formed when two identical waves travelling in opposite directions interfere and superimpose. Unlike travelling waves, standing waves do not transfer energy
Superposition?
the sum of individual displacements of the travelling waves
Destructive interference?
When two travelling waves are out of phase (have the opposite phase or have the phase difference of pi)
Constructive interference? Anti-nodes?
When two travelling waves have the same phase (have the phase difference of 0). Anti-nodes have the largest amplitude
What do points on standing wave have in common and different?
Same frequency, different amplitude
