what is the purpous of enzymes?
A
to lower the activation energy required for the reaction to occur, speeding up the reaction

what is an inhibitor?
A
something that decreases the rate of enzyme- controlled reactions

what is a competative inhibitor?
A
an inhibitor which has a shape that closely resembles that of the substrate molecule, this means it binds to the active site. They stop the substrate from binding and in doing so decrease the reaction rate

what is a non-competative inhibitor?
A
an inhibitor which binds to an enzyme at an allosteric (not the active site) site which results in the active site changing shape so the substrate doesn’t fit it, decreasing the reaction rate
