Photosynthesis Flashcards
Be specific
During photosynthesis, plants take in what?
- Carbon dioxide: Diffuses from air into plants through stomata.
- Water: Enters the root from soil through root hair cells by osmosis.
Word and symbol
Photosynthesis equation
Carbon dioxide + water → Glucose + Oxygen
6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂
Where does photosynthesis occur?
Inside plant’s chloroplasts, mainly occur in the leaf, small amount in green stem.
What is Chlorophyll
Inside chloroplast, make leaves and stems green.
List 2 main stages of photosynthesis reaction
Stage 1: Light dependent
Stage 2: Light independent
What is Stage 1: light dependent
Energy transferred froom light splits water molecules into oxygen gas and hydrogen ions.
What is Stage 2: Light Independent
Carbon dioxide gas and hydrogen ions to make glucose.
What type of reaction is photosynthesis?
Endothermic reaction
What’s this
Inside chloroplast, make leaves and stems green.
Chlorophyll
What happens to the glucose produced in plants?
Glucose is used in respiration. Glucose not needed straight away are converted to starch. Starch provides a store of energy and can be used at night for respiration.
