What should we do for the acute phase post op THA?

A

MAX PROTECTION PHASE
-Quad sets, gluteal sets, ankle pumps, heel slides, SAQ, supine hip ABD
-Gait: walker/crutches, level and uneven stairs.

What are the home instructions to give for the first week after THA?

A

-No hip flexion beyond 90
-No ADD
-No twisting/pivoting
-No IR
-No bending to get things off the floor
-Depending on approach no active ABD

What should we do for the subacute phase?

A

Phase: 2-6 weeks
-AAROM of hip
-Gravity eliminated hip strengthening
-PRE to quads
-Increase gait distance

When are we no longer worried about precautions with a THA?

A

6+ weeks.
-Begin CKC
-Strengthen anti gravity
-Progress to cane
