Q

What is the Inconsistent triad?

A

This is that god has omnipotence, omni-benevolence and omni-science but evil still exists. This creates a problem because if God is all knowning then he knows about the evil, if he is all loving he would want to stop the evil and if he was all powerful then he would have the power to stop the evil.

16
Q

What is human evil?

A

This is evil that has been caused by humans, such as murder and war.

17
Q

What are the defences for the problem of evil?

A
  1. God gave us free will to do whatever we want with (doesn’t explain natural evil)
  2. Evil gives a contrast - good wouldn’t be good without evil.
  3. Courage and compassion are qualities that would not be possible without evil.
  4. We know God loves us as he gave his only son.
18
Q

What is the Holy Trinity?

A

It is made up of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. They are all 100% God, but they are not the same as each other. This is a 4th dimension that we can’t comprehend as it isn’t possible in our world. It is a bit like looking at God from different perspectives.

19
Q

What does The Father do?

A

He is the creator of all things

20
Q

What does The Son do?

A

This is Jesus: he sacrificed himself for us to show God’s love and allows us to go to heaven. He judges who should and who shouldn’t go to heaven.

21
Q

What does the Holy Spirit do?

A

The Holy Spirit is an invisible force that flows through all who believe to give them the courage and strength to spread the word of God.

22
Q

At what point in the Bible are all three parts of the Trinity present?

A

Jesus’ baptism

23

25

A

God made the Sun, Moon and stars (‘God made two great lights . . . He also made the stars’)

27

30
Q

What is a Fundamentalist Christian?

A

A Fundamentalist Christian believes every word the Bible says is correct and takes its literal meaning.

31
Q

What is a Liberal Christian?

A

A Liberal Christian believe the Bible is a metaphor and read between the lines a bit more, allowing for more flexibility in the story.

32
Q

How would a Fundamentalist Christian interpret the Creation story?

A

They would believe that God created the world in exactly 7 days, and that evolution did not happen.

33
Q

How would a Liberal Christian interpret the Creation story?

A

They wouldn’t believe that God created the world in exactly 7 days, and would instead believe that the Creation story is just a simplified version of what happened, and therefore evolution could have happened and science can still be right.

34
Q

What is immaculate conception?

A

This is how Jesus was conceived. People used to believe that sin was passed through the sperm and because there was no sperm involved, Jesus had no ‘original’ sin.

35
