Zone cooling
Zone 1
- the area around the fan case.
- vented by ram air. Inlet tube on nose cowl normally on the top, exhausted on the lower end back into fan air stream.
Zone 2
- cooled by fan air
Zone 3
- the area around the high pressure compressor to the turbine cases
- zone contains fuel + oil lines.
Engine anti icing control
During flight anti-icing is normally automatically controlled or by a switch in the cockpit.
Internal cooling.
Compressor cooling
- rear stages of the compressor is 350-400 degrees c
- the compressor rotor cavity is cooled by IP compressor stage.
Combustion chamber cooling.
Sealing with air
Bearing chamber seal
LP compressor bleed air used
Prevents oil escaping out
Vents overboard through N1
