Q

What is the method for the hookes law practical

A

-set up a clamp stand with a clamp
-hang the spring from the clamp
-use a second clamp and boss to fix a metre rule alongside the spring
-record the ruler reading that is level with the bottom of the spring
-hang a 1N weight from the bottom of the spring
-record the new position of the spring
-measure and calculate extension of the spring
-add further weights to the spring so the force increases by 1N
-for each new force measure and calculate the extension of the spring

Q

What is the method for the acceleration practical

A

-Draw a series of straight lines 20cm apart on the table perpendicular to the edge
-Attach a toy car to one of the string and weight on the other end of the string running over the pulley
-Attach 10g weight and let it go
-use stop clock to measure the amount of time it takes for the car to cover distance from start till it hits the pulley
-repeat steps 3 by increasing 10g each time till 60g
-use the formula acceleration = distance/time^2 to calculate acceleration
-plot a graph of weight/force (x axis) against acceleration ( y axis)

Q

What is the method for the ripple tank practical

A

-Fill a ripple tank with water for about 5mm depth
-use a signal generator to produce waves till seen clearly on the white cardboard placed under the tank
-use meter ruler to measure the length of 10 waves
-then divide the measured value with 10 to give wavelength
-use a strobe light and adjust the flashing/frequency such that the waves on the water appears stationary
-note the frequency from the strobe light
-use the formula wave speed = wavelength X frequency

Q

What is the method for the refraction practical

A

-place a glass block on a piece of paper
-draw around the glass block
-use the ray box to shine a ray of light through the glass block
-mark the ray of light entering the glass block
-join the points to show the path of the complete ray through the block
-and draw a normal line at 90 degrees to the surface
-use a protractor to measure angle of incidence
-use a protractor to measure angle of refraction
-use a ray box to shine a ray of light at a range of different angles of incidences
-increase the angle of incidence in 10 degrees intervals
