Q

Slab pull

A

the process of older, denser sections of crust subducting into the mantle and pulling sections of new, light crust with it.

5
Q

ridge push

A

lava erupts to create crust as plates move apart. As it cools, it pushes down the slope of the top ridge, pushing the plates even further apart

Q

process of destructive plate boundary

A
  1. Convection currents and slab pull move plates together
  2. Oceanic plate subducts
  3. Melting of the plate
  4. Magma rises
  5. Volcanic eruption of ash and lava.

Q

process of a constructive plate boundary

A
  1. Convection currents and ridge push move plates apart.
  2. Magma rises
  3. Volcanic eruption of ash and lava
  4. A ridge is formed as new crust is created.

12
Q

process of a conservative plate boundary

A
  1. Convection currents move plates side by side
  2. Plates lock together and pressure builds
  3. Pressure is suddenly released in an earthquake with seismic waves released from the focus.
