What airspace are non towered airports at?
Class G and Class E
Why should you always fly a standard traffic pattern and announce positions on the radio?
Radio communication at these airports aren’t mandatory, and some airplanes may be flying without a radio.

Check the automated weather, listen to the CTAF to see what other pilots are doing

When should calls to CTAF be made?
Entry into pattern, entries into base, entering into final, clear of the active runway
What should you listen to first on the ramp at a non towered airport?
Automated weather, monitor the local CTAF frequency, radio check may be proper to ensure proper function of radios or proper frequency
How should the transponder be set before takeoff?
1200 (VFR Code) and Altitude mode
When is a transponder required?
Within 30 nm of a class B airport, within class C airspace, above 10000 feet (except within 1200 ft AGL)
What checks need to be done before departure?
(1) Verify transponder set to altitude mode
(2) Announce departure intentions on CTAF
(3) Scan area for traffic
(4) Taxi onto the runway
What does “closed traffic” on a departure announcement on CTAF indicate?
You plan on staying in the traffic pattern after takeoff.
