*Controllers
give me three examples of wired devices
- TV
- Desktop
- Printer
- Xbox
- Router (Wi-Fi)
how do wireless devices send data?
through radio waves, without cables
how do wired devices send data
through copper cables
does a higher bandwidth increase speed?
nope! it increases the amount of data able to pass through but does not increase the speed
what is bandwidth
Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be moved from one point to another in a given time
think of an example that would help and explain it
water flowing through a pipe - if you get a bigger pipe, will the water flow through faster? no, more water will be able to go through though
what is bandwidth measured in
Bandwidth is measured in bits per second which is the smallest unit of data
what are data transferred measured in
Data transfers are so good that its usually measured in megabits per second (a million bits per second)
what is the mbps for a 5G device?
5G: 250-500mbps
what is the mbps for a 4G device?
4G: 20-100mbps
what is the mbps for broadband
Broadband: 10-50mbps
what is you computer doing when downloading data
Download you computer in receiving data (e.g. Browsing on a web page)
what is you computer doing when uploading something
Upload: you computer is sending data to the internet (e.g. putting a video on YouTube)
true or false, Upload speeds are slower than download speeds
TRUE! This is because most users spend much more time downloading, not uploading stuff
