minority influence description (Moscovici)

A

aim- to rest whether a minority group where more likely to influence a majority group into giving an incorrect based if they where consistent in their views

sample- 172 female, 4 ppt, 2 confederates

procedure- series of 36 clearly blue slides, asked to state what colour the slides where
consistant- the 2 confederates said green every time
inconsistent- the 2 confederates said green 24 times

results
control- 0.25% wrong
inconsistent- 1.25% wrong
consistent- 8.42% wrong

conclusion- if a minority wants to influence a majority they must remain consistent

evidence against- mock jury

A

had people decide on amount of compensation for a ski accident
the confederate suggested an alternative pov, this has no influence
when they showed flexibility and compromised it did have an influence

those seen and inflexible and rigid will have less influence
