Q

Au meme moment vs En meme temps (+ note re: avoiding anglicisme)

A

Au meme moment refers to a moment - a very short, specific moment in time. This expression is similary to saying “just as” or “right as” in English. Eg: I called her just as she called me | Je l’appelle au meme moment qu’elle m’appelle. En meme temps refers to a time - this can refer to anything longer than a moment. Eg: At the same time I was talking to her, she was peeling an orange | En meme temps que je lui parlais, elle épluchait un orange.

**Both of these expressions refer to time. They are temporal. They should not be used as replacements for elaborating or presenting opposition. Like “de plus…” or “par contre…”.

Even in English saying “but at the same time…” is probably gramattially incorrect, since no time is actually being referred to.

Un désavantage vs Un inconvénient

A

Un désavantage (a disadvantage) implies / requires a comparison. It holds the connotation that something is less avantageous than another thing / carries less benefits or pros than something else.

Un inconvénient (a con / a negative aspect) is used more generally to refer to the negatives / cons / disadvantages of something. On its own, or compared to something else.

Donc, depending on the context, on peut dire: les avantages et les désavantage (comparé à qqch autre) ou les avantages et les inconvénients (le pour et le contre | pros and cons).
