central nervous system
major division of the nervous system compromising the brain and spinal cord which receives neural from and transmit neural messages to the peripheral nervous system

organ that is responsible for processing thoughts and behaviour
spinal cord
a cable of nerve tissues that is responsible for sending motor messages from brain and sensory messages from the body.
peripheral nervous system
a major division of the nervous system that compromises every neuron outside the central nervous system
somatic nervous system
subdivision of peripheral nervous system that transmits neural messages related to voluntary motor movement
autonomic nervous system
subdivision of peripheral nervous system, that regulates visceral muscles, organs and glands.
sympathetic nervous system
subdivision of the autonomic nervous system that activates the body to respond to a threat or stressor
parasympathetic nervous system
subdivision of autonomic nervous system, maintains optimal balance and functioning of the body
neuron
nerve cell that receives and transmits neural information
