The use of mediares shows how he is mindless and is possibly in a state of trauma and how he is used to the conditions of war.

The use of clumsy repition shows how the soldier is in discomfort and his is by table and is unable to articulate the feeling of the harsh environment.

We see that he has strenuous tasked and is stressed by war
“Bullets smacking the belly out of the air”
We see that war is chaotic yet abnormal we see a sense of disorientation
“He lugged a ride numb as a smashed arm”
We see that the rifle is an extension of the body and war is a part of him. The word “numb” could perhaps connote the reflection of his mindset and shows that he’s desensitised.
“Sweating like Molton iron” “patriotic tear that had brimmed ..”
We see a sense of regret and a loss of passion towards his country due to the past tense of “had” and the “iron” could show that this deep passion has been altered by the environment.
“In what cold clockwork of the stars and the nations”
We see that the “clockwork” symbolises how no matter what happens within war, time moves on and so see get a sense of ignorance and a lack of sympathy toward the soldiers.
“Jumped up the dark and runs”
We see that he is finding a purpose in his actions and finds that this environment has nothing but pain and agony for him.
“Threw up a yellow hare that rolled like a flame”
We see that war is destructive and has no sympathy for the environment that surrounds it. Perhaps the “hare” is the soldier and will ultimately end up the same fate, a death from the destruction of war.
“King honour human dignity etcetera”
We see that he’s become desensitised and no longer wants to embodies the qualities in which one should have in war and we see that his priorities have shifted so that he may survive.
“His terror touchy dynamite”
Fear is explosive and this is overpowering him
