Q

What happened during the prophet’s second journey to Sham?

A

At the age of 25 word of the messenger’s honesty and trustworthiness had spread. Khadijah was looking for a trustworthy person to trade her goods in Sham. She chose the messenger after hearing him and sent Maysara to serve him. When they stopped in Busra a monk recognised him as the seal of prophets.

Whilst reentering Makkah, Khadija saw 2 angels giving shade to Muhammad and was moved by this. She then sent a proposal to his uncle. At the time she was 40, had 4 children, and had been widowed twice. She was already related to the messenger through her bother prior to this.

They were married for 25 years and she was the mother of all but one of his children. She passed away in Makkah at the age of 65.

Q

Tell the story of the reconstruction of the Kabah in the time of the messenger.

A

When Muhammad was 35, torrential rain flooded Makah weakening the Kabah. The Quraysh decided to rebuild it. Each tribe was assigned a role to fulfil. They strengthened the foundations and made a raised door and a roof.

For 5 days they argued about who would position the black stone. The messenger asked each tribe to select a representative. Each representative held a corner of the cloth under the black stone. He then himself placed it in its position.

There was insufficient material to finish the kabah so the reconstructed part was named Hatim.
