A

It covers an area of approximately 250 hectares and houses many facilities including the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre and BMX Track.

Recently the site was known to have become contaminated throughout and overlays the river tenace gravel and chalk aquifers. The park is protected against fluvial flooding and actively manages flooding generated by a 100 year old rainfall event

Q

What SUDS are Used to Maintain the Sites Management against Flooding?

A

Porous asphalt strips are extensively used and act as a collection system for overland runoff generated and convey water into granular trenches. Perforated pipes drain to catchpits.

Wetlands are adjacent to the Basketball Arena, swales and filter strips as well as small balancing ponds help deliver runoff from high to low levels
