Designing interviews

A

Most interviews involve an interview schedule, which is a list of questions the interviewer intends to cover. This should be standardised to reduce interviewer bias. Take notes or record interview. If one on one-quiet room, away from people-increase likelihood of open up. Start with neutral questions to relax interviewee. Remind interviewee answers are treated in the strictest confidence. Especially if personal or sensitive answers.

-Clarity is essential, respondents can’t be confused by questions

-no assumptions about other person. Eg when was the last time you broke the speed limit?

-double barrelled questions-two questions in one- bad

-double negatives-I am not unhappy in my job agree/disagree-difficult to decipher.
