1.up to 1949 the US thought they could use their monopoly of the Nuclear bomb to deter soviet attcks
2.This meant that US military figures decided that the best strat in an event of a war was to use nuclear weapons
3.However by mid 1950s Both got atomic bombs this led to Mutually assured destruction
4.this meant that the US and Soviet had to find ways of stopping disputes between them unless they wantd MAD(Mutally Assured Destruction)
