1
Q

Describe programing for a CNC

A

A CNC reads G codes & M codes that are input by a computer.

The computer controls the movement simultaneously along all axes.

2
Q

What is an Axis and list the 3 basic Axes.

A

Axis is a specific direction of movement.

Basic Axes = X, Y, Z

Some machines only have 2 Axis but 3 is most common now.

Q

What is PRZ?

A

The point on the part that represents ZERO.

Setting the machine to this point the cutterhead is directed where to go and to cut in reference to the part.

6
Q

What are G-Codes?

A

They are prepared functions (ex: Circular motion clockwise)

They describe the specific movement of a tool.

This makes writing programs a lot easier.

Q

What are M-Codes?

A

Machine Codes

Cause machine to activate or deactivate performance of a task.

They vary with each machine.

Q

The first step in developing a program is to first?

A

Design a part (Typically in a CAD program)

Then imported into a CAM software that generates the program codes.

Sometimes the drawing is created at the MCU.
