It was important because it shipped their wheat and corn.

He was upset because he thought he might have to build a new empire in North America.

Toussaint L’Ouverture. They were revolting because enslaved Africans in Haita decided to fight for their liberty.
Who was sent to negotiate buying the city of New Orleans? What did we offer
them?
Robert Livingston and James Monroe. We offered them $10 million just to use the port of New Orleans as we did with the Spanish.
What did the French offer us after we asked for New Orleans?
The French offered us to buy all of Lousiana, not just New Orleans.
Was the purchase constitutional? Why was Jefferson conflicted?
No it wasnt. Jefferson conflicted because the Constitution said that buying the Lousiana territory would be part of a treaty. France offors us the whole territory of Lousiana for $15 million

What were Jefferson’s instructions for the two men?
Jefferson asked Lewis and Clark to map a route to the Pacific Ocean. He also told them to study the geography of the territory- climate, plants, animals, etc…. He also told them to learn about the Native American nations who lived in the Louisiana purchase.-be peaceful and try to establish trade with them.
Why was Jefferson interested in the Native Americans living there?
He hoped the Indians might trade with American merchants.
