Types Of Bill
A
- Public Bill: the most common type of bill and applies to laws that relate to the general public
- Private members bill: these are public bills introduced by MPs and Lords
- Private bill: normally put forward by an organisation, only effects certain people
- Hybrid bill: Is a mix of public and private

A
- set and carry out government policy for criminal, civil and family justice system
- responsable for prison of legal aid and administration of justice
- roles are to protect the public and reduce reoffending
- in charge of NPS, courts and tribunals and HM prison service

Roles of the Police
A
- their role is to maintain law and order
- protect members of the public and their property
- They are governed by legislation such as PACE 1984 and The Human Rights Act 1998
- there are currently 43 establishments in England and Wales

Role of CPS
A
- Advising police on possible prosecution
- reviewing cases submitted by police
- determining the charge in major cases
- preparing cases for court
- if the offender is charged the COS is in charge of prosecuting them

Role of HM Prisons
A
- keep those that are sentenced to prison in custody
- helping them lead a law abiding life in and out of
prison - Runs 104 of 117 of prisons in England and Wales
- they manage prison and probation service
- support effective offender management

- supervise high risk offenders released
- work with 30,000 offenders a year
- work with the prison service prior release
- will minister and support offenders
- regular meetings with an offender manager
- write pre- sentence reports
- support and liaise victims
- anyone released between 2 days and 2 years are monitored for 12 months

A
- 95% of criminal cases dealt with here
- try all summary cases
- try and triable- either way offenders

A
- established by the courts act 1971
- heard the trial in indictment, the jury plays an important role
- if the defendant pleads not guilty it is the juries role to decide whether they are or not
- the judge decides the sentence

Role of the Judge
A
- the trial system is adversarial, the parties run their cases and the judge acts as a referee
- the judge has to endure the jury understands the evidence
- ensure a fair trial
- pass the sentence is the defendant is found guilty
- under the Criminal Justice Act 2003, a judge may sit alone

Police relationships
A
- Government: the police are funded by the government, precisely from the Home Office
- the Ministry of Justice gets the money and spends it on public services before taxing
- The police also get funding from this
- CPS: the police will seek advise from the CPS on charging a suspect
- they will review cases submitted by
police and prepare them for court - the CPS also offer police a 24 hour CPS direct

CPS relationships
A
- NPS: the CPS will provide information on the offence so that NPS can write up pre-sentence reports
- CPS will advise by the NPS on the sustainability of an offender for bail
- Courts: they will review cases submitted by the police for prosecution and prepare cases for court
- appear in courts to conduct advocacy and present the case for prosecution
- the CPS may also provide information, assistance and support for victims and witnesses’

- Government: The ministry of Justice works with the courts to provide legal aid
- minister justice and provide detention or rehabilitation
- NPS: probation officers will attend the court and provide advice about beaches
- they may be called upon to make pre-sentence reports for the court
