Lecture 13 Flashcards
Direct measures of blood pressure
Invasive, require contact to vessel and sometimes the heart using a catheter inserted into the blood stream.
Micro-tipped manometer
pressure strain gauge on the tip of a catheter, inserted into the circulatory system.
Fluid-filled catheter tube
External pressure transducer on a diaphragm with fluid-filled catheter to the source.

Indirect measures of blood pressure
non-invasive, but less accurate and lower frequency response.
Tonometry
indirect measure of blood pressure by applying pressure as needed to flatten the curvature of the vessel.
Tonometry is good for:
measuring intracular pressure
One of the primary measurements the physician would like to acquire for the patient is that of the _________
concentration of oxygen and other nutrients in the blood.
If_____ or ______ is hard to measure: 2 class measurement
O2; nutrient content
2nd Class measurement
blood flow or change in blood volume
If_____ is difficult to measure: 3rd Class measurement
blood flow
If _____ is difficult to measure: 4th Class measurement
blood pressure
3rd Class Measurement
blood pressure
