A

Dutch settlers arrived in South Africa to form the Cape Colony in 1672

British took control of the Cape Colony in 1795 and Dutch and British towropes began to arrive

A

Dutch settlers, known as Boers, did not accept British rule

they were fiercely independent and and moved away from British governed areas

British began to follow the Boers, and hostilities began

British made a law 1823 to make English the official language of the area and the emancipation of British slaves in 1833

What events occurred that led to the annexation of the Transvaal in1877?

A

in 1852, the British allowed the Boers to have self-government, where they set up the Republic of the transvaal and the orange Free State

However, after the discovery of diamonds in 1867 British views changed drastically

they eventually annexed the Transvaal in 18767 after the Boers had failed to have controlled the Pedi Tribe

how were tensions increased between Britain and the Boers increased as a result of the Zulus

A

The Independent nature of the Boers led to conflicts with African tribes such as the Zulus

the Zulus were able to create an anti-beer coalition with other African tribes, this threatened the republic state of the Transvaal

sought help form the British to defeat the Zulus at Ulundi 1879

After this the Boers declared independence form the British which the British did not accept
