A
  1. Non-fatiguing tests (body composition, flexibility
  2. Agility
  3. Max Power & strength
  4. Sprint
  5. Local muscular endurance

A

The force a muscle (or muscle group) can exert in one maximal effort while maintaining proper form
1RM bench press
1RM bench pull (prone on bench, row bar to touch bottom of bench)

Q

Define max muscular power and give 6 examples of tests to measure it.

A

Anaerobic power: the ability to exert force at maximal movement speed

1RM power clean
Standing long jump
Vertical jump - chalk on wall, vertec, or force plate
Static vertical jump - jump from 2-3 second squat
Reactive strength index - contact mat, drop from box and jump as high as possible, minimizing contact time. Jump height/contact time = score
Margaria-Kalamen test - stair sprinting (3 at a time), start 6m away, measure 3rd to 9th stair time to calculate power

Note: all jump tests take best of 3 trials

Q

Give 3 examples of tests to measure local muscular endurance

A

Partial curl up - 20 per min
Push up
Army: arms parallel to ground, 2 minute limit
ACSM: chest approx 4” above ground, to failure
YMCA bench press test - 30 reps per min, 80# (men), 35# (women)

Q

Give 4 examples of tests to measure aerobic capacity

A
  1. 1.5 mile run - as fast as maintainable
  2. 12-minute run - as far as you can go
  3. Yo-yo intermittent recovery test
  4. Maximal aerobic speed test

8
Q

Describe the yoyo intermittent recovery test and the max aerobic speed test for aerobic capacity.

A

Yoyo: 2x20m shuttle run w/ 10 sec rest between bouts at increasing speed until 2 failed trials - use sounds to signal go/turn points
Max: run at increasing speed on a track (25m comes to mark), increase speed by 1km/hr every 2 minutes—if athletes fails to reach cone in time 2x, test is over. Last speed run for 2 min is used to calculate VO2 max. VO2= 3.5 x speed (km/h)

Both tests start at 10km/hr

Q

Name and describe 4 tests used to measure agility

A
  1. T-test: set up a T w/ cones 10 yards per line; athlete runs 10y forward, shuffles 5y left, shuffles 10y right, shuffles 5y left, backward runs 10y to start point. (Approx 10s)
  2. Hexagon test: make a hexagon w/ tape (2’ sides). Athlete double leg hops from center to each side 3x (18 jumps total) - athlete faces same direction the whole time (approx 13s)
  3. Pro agility test: 20 yd shuttle, athlete sprints 5 yd left, 10 yd right, 5 yd left (approx 5s)
  4. 505 agility test: athlete sprints 15m, turns, sprint 5 m back (<3s)

Q

What are two tests that measure balance and stability?

A

BESS: feet together, single leg, tandem on firm and foam surfaces, eyes closed, x20 sec, hands on hips
SEBT: standing in center of 8-pointed star, reach one leg as far as possible along each leg of the star; give at least 4 practice rounds prior to testing
