A

injury that occurs after playing sport for a long period of time

often called over-use injuries

develop slowly, can last long time

Q

buckle

A

occurs in children
bone deforms but does not break

study tip: think of seat buckle doesnt break but bends/deforms

14
Q

greenstick fracture

A

occurs in children
bone partly fractures on one side but does not break completely as childrens bones are more elastic/softer so can bend

16
Q

strains

A

occurs when muscles fibres are stretched too far and tear

may be due to high intensity exercise

17
Q

sprains

A

occur to ligaments
occur when ligaments are stretched too far and tear
happen due to twisting and turning movements

18
Q

chronic injuries symptoms

A

swelling (can use in acute too)
dull ache

19
Q

what are the 3 types of chronic injuries

A

Achilles tendositis
stress fracture
elbow tennis

20
Q

what are the 4 types of acute injuries

A

fractures
disclocations
strains
sprains

21
Q

tendons

A

connect muscles to bones

22
Q

joints

A

connect bone to bone

23
Q

Achilles tenositis

A

over use injury that causes pain and inflation of the tendon

24
Q

stress fracture

A

over use injury where area becomes tender and swollen
often occurs when intensity increased too quickly

25
Q

tennis elbow

A

muscles and tensons become inflamed and cause tiny tears to occur on outside of elbow
area becomes very sore and tender

any repeated action that causes stress on elbow, can cause tennis elbow

26
Q

screening

A

used to detect a problem early before any symptoms occur
e.g CRY screening for young adults
ECG-used to monitor and assess perfomers heart
can identify musoskeltal conditions of an athlete which can highlight any past or current injuries
assesses muscle imbalances, core strength, range of joint movement

27
Q

dis of screening

A

tests are not always 100% accurate

may miss a problem (false negative)

identify a problem which didnt exist (false positive)

increase anxiety if performer finds out they have health problem
